Goals for Nine Weeks

Second Nine Week Period
 
Kindergarten
  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Identify the parts of a book.
  • Discuss book care expectations.
  • With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
  • Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text.
  • Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
First Grade
  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Discuss book care expectations.
  • Practice using a shelf marker.
  • Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
  • Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.

Second Grade

  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Identify the location of books:  Easy, Fiction, Nonfiction
  • Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
  • Prepare for collaborative discussions on 3rd grade level topics and texts; engage effectively with varied partners, building on others' ideas and expressing their own ideas cearly.

Third Grade

  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Identify the location of different types of resources in the library:  Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Reference
  • Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
  • Prepare for collaborative discussions on 3rd grade level topics and texts; engage effectively with varied partners, building on others' ideas and expressing their own ideas clearly.
 
Fourth Grade
  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Identify the location of different types of resources in the library:  Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Reference
  • Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly; refer to details and examples in a text when drawing inferences from the text. 
  • Prepare for collaborative discussions on 4th grade level topics and texts; engage effectively with varied partners, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own ideas clearly. 

 

Fifth Grade

  • Discuss library rules and procedures.
  • Identify the location of different types of resources in the library:  Fiction, Nonfiction, Biography, Reference
  • Determine a theme or central idea of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.
  • Prepare for collaborative discussions on 5th grade level topics and texts; engage effectively with varied partners, building on others' ideas and expressing their own ideas clearly.
